THE POET

A small bar in SOHO. Came here around 6:30ish and the bar was pretty empty. The service was a bit passive, not much engagement from the staff and pretty much was left to read the menu myself. I think the drink was OK. Not impressed nor disappointed, guess i came with no expectation. No harm trying. Will i come again? No. Too many better options in Central.

We were having dinner and drinks at the opposite place. My girlfriend found this bar very mysterious so we decided to check it out after dinner. The door was closed so if it is your first time, you might just miss this. The service was friendly, they let us sit at the table for four since it wasnt busy at the time but they did tell us when it gets more crowded they might need to rearrange. My girlfriend ordered an old fashioned which was delicious. I ordered a wise man which wasnt my taste. It tasted interesting but not to my liking. We like the vibe of the bar.

My friend and I were actually heading to Bar Leone but passed by this one and decided to give it a try based on the 4.5 google review score. But after receiving a welcome drink to wait for our turn, I then noticed how little reviews there actually were (just 56) and some concerning bad ones. Since we already have the welcome drink in our hands (sweet bubbly), we waited and ordered one drink each once inside. The drinks were not remarkable and lacked complexity. For the same price, I could be getting something way way wayyyyyy better at Quinary (this is a benchmark for me) I feel that the bar did try to build a nice concept on the menu, but unfortunately the execution was unable to match up. The AC was insufficient so it was quite hot inside. However the closing time is 2:00 while Quinary and Bar Leone both close earlier. So it would be an option for late hours. Meanwhile, if you come in early enough, drinks are just 80+10% until 9pm. But then again, there are way better options for cocktails (in terms of flavour, complexity and concept) all around this single bar. Literally. I wouldn’t return again.

A nice, intimate cocktail bar. The staff are very welcoming and happy to advise on the cocktails. I highly recommend trying the"Reluctant Expat" a delicious spicy concoction.
